Name thingy...

Ok, I'm killing some time because I really don't feel like putting any more slides back into their proper order (done 60, but I'm dreading if it all changes again) so I thought I'd do this name thing. :)

1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.

Not with my first name, no.  My parents picked it because they liked it.  Unfortunately since when I was born Charles and Diana had not long been engaged and the wedding was being planned everyone thought I was named after her.  I wasn't, my name is actually different to hers and Mum and Dad got quite fed up with putting everyone right.

My middle name though is my grandmothers first name. There is a tradition on both sides of my family of naming the children's middle name after another family member.  My brother's middle for example is my grandfather's middle name, my Dad's middle name is his grandfather's first name etc.

2. Do you have your children's names picked out already? If so, is there any significance?

No, not really.  There are names that I like, but I've not thought about naming my unborn children them. Lol.

3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?

Probably Jonathan, which is my brother's name.  Mum has always loved that name and wanted to use it if she had a boy.  I think she's actually disappointed that Jon can't stand using his full name.

4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?

When I was younger I desperately wanted to change my name, I came up with several different ones.  I think it was partly because I got teased a lot over the whole Charles and Di thing.  I'm sure you can imagine it "Hey Di, how's Charles?  Are you looking forward to being queen?" that sort of thing.  As a child of eight it got very annoying, and I hated my name being shortened to Di.

Now I love my name, it's not that common, but it's not rare either.  I also don't mind being called Di any more, but off of the internet only my family and closest friends call me that.

5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?

Yes, I am constantly being called Diana both in person and on paper.  It really bugs me, because Diana is a different name to Diane, and is not my name.   I have to correct anyone who calls me that, I can't let it lie.

I have also seen Diane spelt several different ways too, Dian, and Dianne are the most common, but someone did spell it Dyane once.  People always get my surname wrong too even when I spell it for them.

Hah, well that killed some time. :)

I can see how that would have gotten annoying, growing up with a name close to Princess Diana's. >< You're right that your name is pretty uncommon nowadays, though. I think it's pretty!

Thanks Styx.

It's quite funny actually because last year we had a new receptionist start who not only is called Diane, but also has the same initials as me. After so long of being the only Diane at head office, I now have to announce myself with my name and department when I call someone.
