Progress

I thought I'd check in here with a  progress report.  I've still not made a start on the comments I owe at Boolprop.  For some reason I just can't get motivated to do it, but I have loved every update I've read recently, so if I normally comment on your story, please know I did enjoy and will try to get round to commenting soon.

As for the next chapter of the legacy, it's definitely going to be a 2 parter.  I've written just under half of the first part, and sorted for most fo the rest.  I do need to do a tiny bit of shooting for it, but I'm well on the way to getting it done.  Hopefully it won't be too long until it is published.  I'll then be sorting the second part and seeing what else I need for that.  It really is great fun to be writing the next chapter and moving the story forwards again, but I think I might be getting a bit too verbose.  The first part is way longer than an exchange chapter used to be, and I'm probably putting too much in, but there are several important scenes I had to put in as well as character scenes and linking scenes, so, well, hopefully you won't find it boring.

Oh and as an extra, this si something that Ori posted on her LJ, and I thought I'd write down my goals here too.

What are YOUR Sims2/Sims3 related goals/plans/ideas for 2010?

1) Enjoy playing.

Basically I don't want to get the stage I was at in the first half of last year, where all I seemed to be doing was slogging through a rotation, getting more and more bogged down in the fact that it was taking me a long time to get anything done.  I ended up putting myself under pressure and had to take a break.

2) Get to gen 5s main plot and beyond.

The idea is that if I'm enjoying playing and not worrying about a deadline, then I should make more progress because I won't get stressed.  Bits and pieces for this storyline have been in my head for over a year and I want to get to it.  I also want to do it justice, so we will see.

3) Meet gen 6.

It's my 3 year legaversary in April, and although I know gen 6 won't be about by then, I do want to meet them this year.  I've got ideas for their plots already too.

4) Spare story.

I've claimed Lys and Rosa for a spare story, and I want to get the bones of that sorted and it possibly done after chapter 22.  I've been wanting to get more involved with the RR since Marina first came up with the idea over a year ago, but there is no way I could play and write a generation in 5 weeks, so I decided not to take part.  The fact that I've had an idea for a spare story and was able to claim two spares I love, has me very excited.

5) More meta on my legacy.

I know I've been promising them for a while, but I do have ideas for more meta that I want to find time to write up.  So far my list consists of a two part meta on the role of women in Victorian England, how that role changed and how it is relevant to my legacy.  I have to do a lot of reading for this to refresh my memory, and that's the main reason I not got round to this one yet.  I also want to do one on separating my characters from my sims.  It's an idea sparked by a comment Rose left me, but I think some of you might find it interesting.  Another one I want to do is about the relationship between Bertie and Stuart, but that will have to wait until the big plot is over.  I'm also toying with the idea of doing on Bertie's character and its development, but again that will have to wait.

6) Sort out some lots and cc I've made so they can be put up on the Emporium.

For months and months now, I've been meaning to sort out some of my community lots for upload.  The trouble is the amount of cc I use to make them look authentically Victorian means I have to do a lot of work sorting the content, finding the creators and writing a credit list.  It can take me most of a day to do that and package a clean lot, and I will only upload a clean lot for you all.  Most weekends I'd rather play or write than package a lot.

7) Finish the tutorial I started on recolouring pictures.

I know a lot of you know how to do this already, but I have had others ask me, so I've written the tutorial, I just need to make screen grabs and post it.

#1 is probably the key to everything. The rest will fall into place (or not and life will go on) if you're enjoying what you're doing.

I will say, I am definitely looking forward to see what you do with Lys and Rosa. I'm so glad you picked them up. :) And, honestly, I'm looking forward to the rest of your stuff too. :)

Exactly, I'm going to try to relax and enjoy playing the game again. Forget about deadlines and do what I want to do. Anyone who really enjoys my story and wants to find out what is going to happen will wait for an update.

I've been working on the part of Belladonna Cove Lys and Rosa will be living in rather than writing today. It's fun sorting it all out. :D

I'm pretty excited for a few things on this list. Metas and plots and spare stories = YAY.

As for packaging the lots, instead of tracking down all the cc individually, you can do what I've sometimes seen people at GoS do, which is just post a screen shot of the list of cc you get when you open the lot package with the clean installer.

Good, I'm excited to be getting to some of them.

I have thought about doing that, but discounted it for a few reasons: there'd be loads of screenshots because of the amount of cc I use (154 items in the Seasons cottage alone). The information isn't always very informative on the clean installer either, not only for creator but also for what the object is. I installed a lot this morning and I had no idea what most the things were. Maxis recolours don't show up in the package so I'll still need to track those down. Plus, because of the way I like to upload my lots, the only thing you end up with in the package is the lot file. I use so much specialist cc, I think it's nicer for me to upload it in a separate folder where everything is subfoldered and labelled so if you don't want Victorian objects clogging up your downloads folder, you can just yoink that subfolder out and don't have to hunt through everything. It's nicer for those with Macs too since they don't get alphabet soup when installing the package.

It's a good idea, but not one for me.

I inspired a meta? Yay!

And yay on the rest of this too. :D

You did. :D It was a remark you made few months ago and it's there in my brain bubbling away.

What comment, out of curiosity? Cause I totally don't know what you're thinking of. :)

[identity profile] dicreasy.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I always find it odd when people describe sims by their height, because they don't have different heights. Theo, Eddie, and Stanley are all the same height in game...but I guess you think of them as different. It's always odd to me.

My reply was my sims are the same height, my characters aren't and that's what I want to explore, as well as things such as behaviour that is perfectly normal in game, but I can't use in the story.

[identity profile] rosefyre.livejournal.com 2010-01-10 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, THAT comment! I do remember saying that, when you were describing them height-wise for a simspiration, I think.

And it's true, characters and sims can be very different people - or they can be very similar. I've actually got a bit of that coming up for my behind the scenes for my next chapter, since I took some pictures that don't really suit one of the characters as I've written them.

And the height thing is still something I find odd. Jenn's simself and my simself are the same height...but she has a foot and an inch on me in real life!

I guess it's more important that you have fun. Whether it's playing, writing, building, creating, etc., in whatever mood strikes you at the time. I'll look forward to your posts in whichever order they appear. So, have some fun, and a good day.
