Summary: Sarah Jane orders a new gown.
Notes: I don't really have anything to say about this, apart from, halfway there and enjoy.

Lady Sarah Jane Penryn-Jones looked at the swathe of fabric in front of her critically. “May I see the moiré again please?” she asked and smiled as Miss Cee replied “of course Lady Penryn-Jones,” and scurried off to fetch it from the little table. Was there anything as enjoyable as ordering a new dress? Sarah Jane could think of very few things to match it, especially since her husband had expressly informed Miss Cee that Sarah Jane was to have whatever she wanted for her evening gown.
Sarah Jane smiled at the cascade of shimmering pale blue fabric Miss Cee now presented to her before nodding. “Yes I will have the moiré, trimmed with the ivory lace.”
“An excellent choice,” said Miss Cee as she set the fabric back down, before picking up her notebook and scribbling a few notes down. She cocked her head to one side and pursed her lips as she re-read one of her previous notes. “Forgive me, my lady, but earlier we decided on a full skirt at the back, over a large dress improver and rounded neckline almost off the shoulders, but I now wonder if that would be a mistake.”
Sarah Jane raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”
“Yes. The very latest designs out of Paris are for a more natural line to the skirt, falling into an elegant train, whilst the neckline is square, ascending into a high collar round the back of the neck. I feel that this style, will serve to emphasise your height and slenderness, while maximising your, ahem, assets.”
‘Or lack thereof,’ thought Sarah Jane, sourly. She was, she knew, unfashionably thin, bony even, and despite the fact her husband seemed to like it and think her beautiful, she could not suppress a twinge of jealousy whenever she looked at a more endowed woman, such as her sister. Bethany was fashionable curvy, as was their mother (although the years and five children had added a bit of padding round her waist that had not been there in her younger days), and she couldn’t help but be chagrined that she had inherited her paternal grandmother’s stick thin figure, rather than her Grandmamma Beth’s proportions. Ever since she was old enough to be aware of this, and have a say in her clothing, she had sought to remedy that through what she wore, and now Miss Cee was suggesting the opposite.
Sensing her reticence, Miss Cee rose from her chair and walked over to her desk. “These arrived yesterday from Paris. They illustrate perfectly, the cut I am describing.” She came back and handed Sarah Jane a sheaf of fashion plates. “You can see here, how the skirt falls naturally from the hips, making a much more elegant line to the back of the dress than the skirts of the past few years. The silhouette from the front is also very elegant as this plate shows.
“A square neckline, cut higher than has lately been fashionable, along with the high back to the dress, draws attention to the graceful neck of the wearer. I feel that this will suit you immensely.” As she spoke, Cee pointed out details on the fashion plates, and Sarah Jane chewed her bottom lip as she thought. She certainly agreed that the clothes illustrated looked very elegant, and thinking about it, they would certainly look well on her compared to some of the gowns of recent years. And then, what was it Miss Cee had said? “This is the … latest fashion out of Paris you say?”
“It is indeed my lady.”
“And you believe that you can replicate the cut of both the skirt and the bodice?”
Cee threw her a look. “Of course I can my lady.”
“Then yes. I agree to your suggested changes.”
Cee smiled and crossed out a few lines in her notebook before deftly writing a few more. Sarah Jane reached across to the table in front of her and picked up the ivory trim she had decided on and looked at it closely. Yes, there really were few things more pleasurable than ordering a new dress.
