Welcome to New Simbridge
Aug. 9th, 2010 08:48 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Hello, hello. I've been a bit quiet lately, ever since I realised that I needed to get one of the big three things on my to do list done, before I can make any sort of progress with the legacy itself. Either that or I'm just procrastinating. :p
As such, I decided to get on with rebuilding my university, after all I need it done for both playing chapter 24 and setting up the blank neighbourhood. I decided to go for a sort of Oxbridge-y feel, using Acadamie Le Tour as a base. I've made over nearly all of the lots, the only two I haven't that you can see here are the ALT coffee shop and one of the original dorms that looks good from the outside and won't ever be seen from the inside.
Aaanyway, voila, New Simbridge:

The idea is that this isn't an isolated campus, and instead is a town with a university in it, so some of the lots, such as the parks and shops, hopefully have the feel that they aren't just for university students. Because of that, I would like there to be more terraced houses (and yes, these are the houses I've built for Simdon), but my computer has started to lag more and more lately and it doesn't like moving around the neighbourhood as it is. But, let's look at things a bit more closely shall we?

This is the part of the neighbourhood that is the Acadmie. The occupied lot at the bottom of the picture is the Victorian Privileged Ladies' Society, the other occupied lot is Princess Beatrice House, (the new dorm for the girls), I've also placed a second copy (by the trees) called Princess Louise House, and the Princess Alexandra Halls is still there, just up from the VPLs, I've just changed the cladding. Opposite Princess Beatrice House is a Dance Hall (need a better name), behind which are the Waffle Way shops and on the left of that is the Acadamie School for Fine Ladies, the main building of the finishing school.
Lot tours!
The VPLs:
Before:

After:

Yes, things are looking very different here.
Inside I've also made a few changes, although I've tried to keep things with the same tone as the original.

I'm...not sure I'm going to deal with this, but I'm sure you can all forget how things were, right? Whatever, I like it a lot, and it will be nice and playable.
Princess Beatrice House:
This is going to be the main dorm for the main line and first cousin girls. I was lazy when I placed the first dorm for the girls, and used a clone of the dorm I'd built for the boys. This is more like the sort of thing I wanted right from the start, and now I've built it.

Hall:

Music Room:

(Note the obligatory banjos and the harp).
Games Room:

Library:

Drawing Room:

Dining Room:

The kitchen is off of this room, and I've tried to stay accurate while making it work for a dorm with a cafeteria worker. We'll see what happens.
Bedrooms:

There are six rooms and each one is different, but contains a single bed, desk, wardrobe of some kind and dressing table.
There's also a sitting area on the landing:

*cough* possible future spouse in shot *cough*
Grounds:

There are lots of nice places for the ladies to take a stroll, or to sit and drink tea, because tea drinking is good.
The Dance Hall:

This was built mainly for Celestia, but I thought that the girls would need somewhere to learn to dance anyway.

On the ground floor is a little cafe and a mini ballroom. Funny story, when I was building the main ballroom (you'll see it later) I realised that I'd made that the same size as this one, and had to enlarge it.

Upstairs is a studio for Celestia to practise her ballet when she gets to the finishing school.
Waffle Way Shops:
Before shot as a refresher:

Now:

All of my shops are a mix of functional and decorative, with the functional parts hidden if they don't fit with the time period. Anyway, this row of shop includes a grocery shop, another tearoom, and a florists:

The Acadamie School for Fine Ladies:

This is the ex Library de Livre, and is designed to be the main building for the finishing school.
There are a couple of places to sit and drink tea, because sitting and drinking tea is lovely:

Reading Room:

(You can't see from this shot, but the bookshelves are opposite the chairs).
Sewing Room:

Lots of space for both sewing machines and sitting looking pretty, working on embroidery.
Main Room:

Situated upstairs and currently set up for a music lesson, this is where the girls would spend most of their time.
Onto the next part of the neighbourhood, and we are now into the university as opposed to the Acadmie, although there are a couple of lots that the girls are allowed to use, as well as the shops and Ballroom which are part of the town.

Right in the bottom right corner, is the Simbridge Ballroom, above from that is the King's Music Hall, with the Tearoom above that. To the left of the ballroom is a row of shops, with the Student Union, almost in the centre. To the left of that, is the Fine Arts building, the gym is behind the Student Union, with the Campus Lounge opposite that, and the Library above the Student Union. There's also a small pub next to the library, and in the top right corner are the Campus Boutiques.
More lot tours!
Simbridge Ballroom:
Although part of the town of Simbridge, the Ballroom can be said to belong more to the Acadamie than the university.

Ballroom:

There is a small eating area on the top floor, as well as a side room, but this is the main reason for building. After all, if the girls are doing all that practising, then they need somewhere to have a big ball.
Also, nice grounds:

King's Music Hall:

This is a lot that I see as being part of the university, but which the girls of the Acadamie have full access to.
Main floor:

I've not done too much to the main floor, just made it look a bit more like a place where people will listen to recitals in my world.
Upstairs:

Upstairs there are several practice rooms, with a larger room dominating the floor.
Tea shop:
This is the first of four community lots I've imported from SSU and I've not done anything to this inside since you last saw it in chapter 15.3, but outside I've made it match the neighbourhood.

Shops:
While Waffle Way and Campus Boutiques were made over lots, this one was built entirely from scratch.

It has a drapery, a dressmakers, a bookshop, an art supply shop and a tea room. With all of my functional shops, the actual shopping happens behind the scenes, out of sight.

Student Union:
I added a new wing to this, and pretty much gutted it before redoing:

There are various small study rooms on the top floor still, and a larger one on the ground floor:

Drawing room thing:

Tearoom:

Restaurant:

Upstairs I've kept the idea of a billiard room and bar:

I've added a recital room on the new wing:

And, as I said earlier, there are still small study rooms about:

Fine Arts Building:
This was built for Christopher really, but I think that others can get some use out of it too.

Hall:

I used the hall to test drive a new wallpaper and flooring I made. All of my buildings have lovely halls and corridors, but you don't want to see lots of pics of those, so you're only getting a couple.
Rooms:

I have a lovely cc easel, but it doesn't show up on comm lots and I can't remember how to enable it at the moment, so I'm having to make do with the Maxis ones. O'm really not ure how functional this will be, but I really like the idea of the building, and having it available for filming if necessary.
There's also a nice eating area upstairs:

Gym:
Most of my sims love working out, so a gym is very important, but neither the gym at SSU nor the Acadamie fitted my idea, so I had to build my own.

Downstairs has the toilet and shower facilities:

and a tearoom:

Upstairs are two rooms, one for males:

one for females:

In order to make it more authentic, I decided to separate the two genders and have also tried to hide the doors that do so in corridors. Whether that will work or not remains to be seen, since I've not tested it yet.
Campus Lounge:
The second lot imported from SSU, and again inside I've left it as you last saw it in 15, but made the outside over to fit in with the rest of the campus.
Before:

After:

Library:
It's exactly the same with the library as with the lounge. I redid the outside, when I imported it from SSU, but kept the interior as it was.
Before:

After:

Pub:
I was going to build my own pub from scratch, but couldn't come up with a design I liked, so I've used the Bull from Regalton, tweaked it a tad and called it the Drunken Scholar.

Campus Boutiques:
Again, this is a made over lot from ALT
Another before shot:

After:

Although it looks drastically different, the changes are largely superficial.
There's another bakery, but this one is a functional grocery shop (the grocery bins are on the top floor, out of sight).

Draper/dressmaker/milliner:

I actually built this to test out an idea I had on downloading the fabric bolts, and I have to say I really like how it all works. I'll probably use this idea in one of the dressmakers in Simdon
Beyond the shops are the river lots. I've long wanted a river to run through the university, and so I've built these:

This is the main lot, and I am thinking about filming on it. In fact I built this from a set I saw in my mind while writing a sim_spiration drabble:

This lot also has my rather crappy version of a bridge of sighs in it, and I might make the buildings look a bit more interesting before I film on it:

The other lots are complete dummies, designed to make it look like a row of buildings, and not as if I've dumped a lot with a river in it in the middle of nowhere. They do give me options for the future though, as I can use these shells for lots.

Last area now. This is the residential part of New Simbridge University.

The big lot on the right of the picture, is the new main halls of residence, Prince William Halls. I've dotted around two clones of it too, (Prince Alfred Halls and Prince Leopold Halls) but this is the lot that all the main line and cousins will now be calling home. The Prince Albert Halls are still there at the top of the picture, and distant cousins will be housed here (as you can see from the plumbbob). The last occupied lot on the right of the lot is the new look Legacy Society. You can also see the last of the lots imported from SSU in the foreground: Chestnut Park, renamed Hope Pond. The park from ALT is also still around.
Prince William Halls:
I'm so much more pleased with this dorm than the original one, I can't tell you. It matches my original idea exactly and I am so looking forward to playing it for the next few generations.

Hall and one of the corridors:

I completely love these corridors and the feeling they evoke. They're perfect. Of course, shooting Bethany against this dark wood isn't going to be fun, but never mind. :D
Drawing room:

Library/study 1:

Library/study 2:

Games room:

Music room:

Art room:

I felt like this would be appropriate with Christopher living in the halls.
Dining room:

Same set up as the girls, with the kitchen off of this.
Bedrooms:

There are seven bedrooms, and Christopher's is the largest. I couldn't resist personalising it for him. All bedrooms have a double bed, wardrobe and desk.
Grounds:

The grounds are much plainer than that of the Princess Beatrice House by design, but I think they will still work.
Legacy Society.
Before:

After:

This is the new look Legacy society, and again I'm not sure how to deal with the fact that it is so different to how it was when it last appeared.
Hall:

This isn't that different, since I've tried to keep things very similar to how it was due to the fact that it was in the last chapter. I would like to change the wallpaper eventually, and this is another new floor I've been working on.
Drawing room:

New fireplace, new wallpaper and a bit of rearranging here. It's starting to look good.
Study/library:

New furniture, and rearranged what there was. I've also made the entire house smaller, so the back wall of the study is now the back wall of the house, not leading to another room.
Dining room:

This is completely different. New size, new wallpaper, new furniture, etc, etc.
Games room:

I moved a wall, due to the resizing, and rearranged the furniture as well as putting in new wallpaper.

Upstairs hasn't really changed that much, even though a wall has moved, so a bedroom and the two bathrooms are smaller. The main thing is that Alfie's room is now in the top right corner, rather than top left. I also rearranged the front blue room (the heir's room) to accommodate the new fireplace downstairs, and redid the entrance into the paisley room to make the space of the two bedrooms on the right make more sense.
And that's it. there are a few lots I haven't shared, including the parks (which I've not done that much to) and a lot with a football pitch on that I've not finished because I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed with it. I hope you've enjoyed this pictorial tour of new Simbridge, and I'm sure I'll think of things later that I could have said to make this more interesting for you, but yes, this is the university that I hope will see the legacy to its conclusion. Now it's done I can do a bit of shooting in it, and make a start on writing the next chapter, which is all to the good. :D
As such, I decided to get on with rebuilding my university, after all I need it done for both playing chapter 24 and setting up the blank neighbourhood.
